This is my latest animation short. Perhaps it was the summer sun, the cool breezes, the new exercise regiment, the long walks to Andersonville with my wife, but I definitely felt some real enthusiasm for this latest project, and my work in general, like I haven’t felt in about 6 months. Coincidence? I couldn’t say, [...]
I was born Robert Gordon Conaway. My mother’s maiden name was Eleanor Montgomery. My grandmother’s maiden name was Eleanor Brown. My great grandmother’s maiden name was Anna Carlson and my great great grandmother’s maiden name was Sophie Bergeson. She married a man named Bennett Carl Carlson. This was a reunion of some of the grandchildren, [...]
Ever since Petra and I moved into our wonderful apartment on Lake Michigan, I wanted to have a party on the patio there. My wealth of talented friends compelled me to share some of my good fortune with others. The plan was simple; an afternoon of drinking, food, fantastic music, dancing, laughs and great conversation [...]
Petra and I were invited to join some folks I work with for a retirement party. It was thrown by the world’s greatest boss, Carl Puccio. The night included dinner at the prestigious Sunda restaurant in downtown Chicago and then a giant old sailboat ride out into Lake Michigan to watch the fireworks. It would [...]
For over a year now, I’ve been working on creating a new group; KATASTROFIST. My bandmates and I wrote, recorded and mixed the debut album all on our own, without the help of any recording studio or sound engineers (except for the main vocal track. props to Rolan at I.V. Labs). To coincide with the [...]
Our friends Roy and Marci have recently moved with their family to Kalamazoo Michigan due to Roy’s work. We came to visit them and spend the weekend relaxing, eating and drinking while the kids were away. It was ‘adult’ time. Also, word to the wise; Beergaritas are not a good idea if you have any [...]
This past weekend my 8th Grade English teacher and now long time friend and colleague, Kirk Taylor came to stay with my wife and me for the weekend. He brought his 13 year old son Graeme (a confessed sugar junkie). Graeme is the age that I was when I met his father, and coincidentally I [...]
So now that the album is finished, we need to submit it to iTunes and Amazon.com through Tunecore. This includes the album artwork. I put together 5 distinctly different covers which I thought could all work with the music.
Our friends Dennis, Bradley and Kristal came to Chicago for a weekend visit in celebration of Bradley’s birthday. Highlights included, a visit to the Planetarium, an afternoon brunch with Neil Dixon Smith entertaining us with his classical guitar and Bradley’s best birthday gift – a ridiculous magnifying glass.
Making music videos puts together 2 out of 3 of my favorite things to do. Take pictures and experience music (my first, of course being, spending time with my lovely wife).
Over the past 2 years my interest in photography has grown. Some of you might have noticed. I decided it was time for a new blog design that would put more emphasis on imagery. Especially since I’m such a visual person. Lately I’ve been really interested in old photos.
One of the best things about being me and Petra (because there are so many!
), is having the friends that we have. We are surrounded by incredibly talented musicians from all types of music.
You figure out which one is the Funeral.
The 2009 will be remembered as the year of weddings. Petra and I have never attended so many weddings! I guess it’s just that time in OUR lives when folks our age decide it’s THAT time in THEIR lives.
My favorite client Carl Puccio hired me to do an animation short for his company Alpine Access. He sent me to an online video of an award winning United Airlines commercial that he wanted me to use as inspiration or a template.
This was one of the biggest projects I’ve ever done. After creating
I was hired by Roger Jansen, one of Chicago’s bigger names in band booking and promotion, to film and produce a promotional music video for one of his bands; Your Villain My Hero. This was filmed in what I call “douchebag ground zero” at Cubby Bear in Wrigleyville. Anyone who knows the city, knows what I’m
Over a year in preparation, Katastrofist is 3 of the 4 members formerly from the band Ghettobillies. Robbie, Bong, and Maloney, with the addition of newcomer, but seasoned musician Tim Reid Jr. on the synth, piano, organs and vocals formed the band almost 9 months ago and after fine tuning an albums worth of material, are just now
Petra’s birthday party this year was extra special thanks in part to some of our friends from England coincidentally being here for Derek and Kelly’s wedding. A special Tres Leche cake (Petra’s favorite) was ordered. There were snacks and food and of course lots to drink. Thank you to everyone who came and made it
A short video illustrating accusatory angry customers on the phone. This was shot for Alpine Access who are my main client right now. It will be placed in Alpine’s training website for their soon-to-be at home operators.
When I was considering purchasing my 5D camera and how expensive it was, I told myself that the cost would be worth it if I could figure out a way to make some extra cash with it as an extension of my graphic design work. One of the main things about it that fascinated me was
Moving along towards my goal of eventually being able to film, edit and color treat low budget music videos for bands in the greater Chicago area, I’ve put together these little videos as an experiment. Shot and edited in two days in Chicago (just about 4 miles from home) these short videos were “color corrected” [...]
I rode my bike down to Chinatown this afternoon and brought my camera. Spent some time in Ping Tom Park watching trains go over the elevating bridge and then at Chinatown Square where all the restaurants and stores sell things from the other side of the world. I would have taken pictures inside the stores, but [...]
Chicago’s Gay Pride Parade is huge. Whether you are gay or not, it is something to see. This year’s gay pride parade did not disappoint. As usual the streets were filled with freaks and beauties, devils and angels; and the millions of people that came to see them and celebrate with them. There were protesters, [...]
