Perhaps it was the summer sun, the cool breezes, the new exercise regiment, the long walks to Andersonville with my wife, but I definitely felt some real enthusiasm for this latest project, and my work in general, like I haven’t felt in about 6 months. Coincidence? I couldn’t say, but when you’re handed a script as clear, concise and just the right length and timing as this one, it’s hard not to get a bit enthusiastic about what you can make of it. Special points for Carl who took my advice on the importance of the music in this piece and paid fairly big bucks for a 2 minute bit of “perfect” soundtrack for our mini cartoon about online identity stealing. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of having someone fully trust and respect your professional opinion and skills.

I was born Robert Gordon Conaway. My mother’s maiden name was Eleanor Montgomery. My grandmother’s maiden name was Eleanor Brown. My great grandmother’s maiden name was Anna Carlson and my great great grandmother’s maiden name was Sophie Bergeson. She married a man named Bennett Carl Carlson. This was a reunion of some of the grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and great, great, great grandchildren of that marriage. Phew!

Most of the reunion took place at Lake Hope State Park where we all lived for a weekend in a small community of cottages. Below are links to the photos, video, 360˚ interactive images and finally the family tree of who attended and who they were. I think we should do this again sometime soon. We all had a great time. Thanks to everyone who attended and helped out to make it so wonderful for me and Petra. Also thank you to my mother, who’s idea it was in the first place and her sister Judy who helped organize it.

Ever since Petra and I moved into our wonderful apartment on Lake Michigan, I wanted to have a party on the patio there. My wealth of talented friends compelled me to share some of my good fortune with others. The plan was simple; an afternoon of drinking, food, fantastic music, dancing, laughs and great conversation all with a summertime view of Lake Michigan and our beach. A special thank you to the patio gang: Michael, Robert, George, Brian, Dori, Marja, Donna, Christine, Bear, Tim and anyone else I might be forgetting . Also, Chicago Sound, Dan, and our incredibly talented sound people Nate and Diane. Thank you to everyone who came out to visit and enjoy the event. It was such a great success thanks to all of you; a perfect way to celebrate what we have and how lucky we are to have it.

Our friend Dawn (who Petra met years ago in London) now lives in Logan Square here in Chicago. She invited us to her neighborhood’s annual block party. Complete with a pig roasting, tons of food, a live rock band and one massive indestructible Pinata. There were more children than adults and somehow this was okay. It felt like a zoo of hyperactivity.

The pics aren’t the best, as my camera’s battery was empty and I could only use my phone to take photos.

It was thrown by the world’s greatest boss, Carl Puccio. The night included dinner at the prestigious Sunda restaurant in downtown Chicago and then a giant old sailboat ride out into Lake Michigan to watch the fireworks. It would have been the perfect evening if it weren’t for me discovering that I have somehow lost my sea legs in old age over that last few years and am now very prone to motion sickness. Perhaps next time I will take the Dramamine before hand and not wait to see what happens when I get out on the open water.

Petra and I took a very quick trip to visit the family in Michigan, watch my niece in her ballet dance recital, attend my sister’s 40 birthday party, and finally to enjoy the hammock in my parents backyard. It was a bit rushed and felt much too short, but it was fun and exciting none the less. Summer in Michigan is always a pleasure.

This video was entirely filmed on my new iPhone.

For over a year now, I’ve been working on creating a new group; KATASTROFIST. My bandmates and I wrote, recorded and mixed the debut album all on our own, without the help of any recording studio or sound engineers (except for the main vocal track. props to Rolan at I.V. Labs). To coincide with the release of the new album and to help promote it. We plan to release at least 3 music videos. This one is the first. I hope you like it. We are asking our friends and fans to repost this video on their Facebook status update as many times as they feel comfortable all week to help promote the album.

This is actually my 3rd promotional video for Seth Bradley and The Personnel. We filmed it in only a couple hours at a club called The Elbo Room here in Chicago. This is literally ridiculous POP, but it’s well produced and I’m really happy with how the final video turned out, especially considering the time limitations. And if you’re wondering, yes, that IS an NSYNC song. Eat it up.

However, like most American holidays (or any countries holiday for that matter) it usually just turns into a long holiday weekend to hang out with friends and get drunk and eat. This year my parents came to spend Memorial weekend and my birthday with us here in Chicago. Along the way Petra bought me Sushi at Hama Matsu, we rode bicycles down to North Avenue Beach to see the absolute chaos that is Memorial Day Weekend there, ate and drank at the wonderful Tilli’s Restaurant near Boys Town, had a beautiful birthday brunch at the Fireside Grill with friends and family, hung out with our new neighbors on the beachfront patio at our apartment late into the evening, drank some rare beer and had a few lessons about it in the process from Michael Roper, the owner, of  Hopleaf, and lastly ate authentic Mexican at Frida’s in Andersonville. The weather was perfect, except for a few perfectly timed massive thunderstorms that rolled through town and right on out again.
